One telescope, every experience

Look at Saturn through the eyepiece and see its rings with your own eyes. Capture the cloud bands of Jupiter, the craters of the Moon in high resolution, or reveal the spiral arms of a galaxy in a deep-sky imaging session. The CPC Deluxe HD 8" powered by PrimaLuceLab does it all with a single instrument. The Celestron EdgeHD 8" optical tube delivers 203mm of aperture at f/10 with an aplanatic optical design that corrects coma and field curvature across a flat 42mm image circle. The computerized alt-azimuth fork mount eliminates the complexity of polar alignment entirely: level the tripod, align on one or more stars, and you are ready. Use it with 1.25" or 2" diagonals and eyepieces for visual observing, add a planetary camera for high-resolution lunar and planetary imaging, or install the optional 0.7x focal reducer and capture wide-field deep-sky objects at f/7. One telescope, from your first look at the Moon to your first image of the Orion Nebula.

Visual observing: always ready

The CPC Deluxe HD 8" powered by PrimaLuceLab is a complete astrophotography system, but it never stops being a visual telescope. All PrimaLuceLab devices (the SESTO SENSO or ESATTO motorized focusing solutions, the ARCO rotator, the OnAxisLock2 visual back, and the EAGLE computer if installed) remain on the telescope at all times and do not interfere with visual observing in any way. When you want to observe visually, simply connect a 1.25" or 2" diagonal and your eyepiece to the OnAxisLock2 visual back, and you are ready. The only accessory you need to remove is the optional 0.7x focal reducer, if you had it installed for deep-sky imaging. Everything else stays in place. The computerized alt-azimuth fork mount does the rest: command it where to point, and it will find Saturn, Jupiter, the Moon, or any of the 40,000+ objects in its database and keep them centered in the eyepiece automatically. No polar alignment, no complex setup. Just look.

Motorized focusing: precision and remote control

Focusing is one of the most critical operations in astrophotography: the CPC Deluxe HD 8" powered by PrimaLuceLab solves this with two motorized focusing options, one for each Base Kit. The SESTO SENSO 3 SC attaches to the existing internal focuser of the telescope and replaces manual focusing with a precision motor controlled through PLAY software. It allows you to save focus positions for different accessories and switch between visual and photographic configurations instantly. If you want to lock the telescope primary mirror, this way removing mirror shift, you can select the Base Kit with ESATTO 2" LP focuser: it is a true external focuser that replaces the internal focusing mechanism entirely, and it also removes internal focuser backlash, making ESATTO the ideal choice for users who prioritize astrophotography.

OnAxisLock2: keep every accessory perfectly aligned to the optical axis

Every accessory you connect to the telescope, whether an eyepiece, a diagonal, or a camera, must be held perfectly centered on the optical axis. Even a small amount of tilt between the camera sensor and the optical path causes field curvature and elongated stars toward the edges of your images. Traditional visual backs use thumbscrew to lock accessories in place, which allow the accessory to tilt under its own weight. The OnAxisLock2 2" visual back included with every Base Kit replaces this mechanism with a concentric ring-clamp system: rotating the outer ring applies uniform pressure around the full circumference of any 2" accessory, keeping it perfectly centered and preventing tilt or lateral flex. This matters for astrophotography, where even minor misalignment degrades image quality, and it is equally valuable for visual observing with heavy eyepieces that would otherwise shift in a conventional holder. The kit also includes the OnAxisLock2 31.8mm (1.25") eyepiece holder for using 1.25" accessories.

High-resolution planetary and lunar imaging

The CPC Deluxe HD 8" is equally at home capturing the surface details of the Moon, the cloud bands of Jupiter, and the rings of Saturn. At f/10, the EdgeHD 8" optical tube delivers the long focal length that high-resolution planetary imaging requires. Pair it with a fast planetary camera, and you can capture thousands of short-exposure frames in seconds, then select only the sharpest frames for stacking. Add a 2x or 3x Barlow lens to push the effective focal length further and resolve finer details on planetary discs or lunar surface. The Moon and planets are an ideal target for first astrophotography sessions: they're bright, require short exposure times, and the level of detail you can capture with 203mm of aperture will surprise you from the very first session.

Long-exposure deep-sky imaging on an alt-azimuth mount

An alt-azimuth telescope tracking a celestial object keeps it centered in the field of view, but it cannot prevent the field itself from slowly rotating as the Earth rotates. This effect, called field rotation, causes stars to trail in circular arcs during long exposures, making it impossible to do deep-sky imaging. ARCO solves this problem. Mounted between the telescope and your camera, ARCO continuously rotates the camera with a fantastic precision and at precisely the correct rate, automatically calculated by PLAY software based on the telescope's current pointing position. The result is that, when you add the optional 0.7x focal reducer, the CPC Deluxe HD 8" can capture long-exposure deep-sky images without an equatorial mount or equatorial wedge, retaining all the simplicity advantages of the alt-azimuth design. Beyond field de-rotation, ARCO also lets you rotate the camera to any angle for precise framing of your targets.

PLAY: the easy to use astrophotography software

PLAY is the PrimaLuceLab software that brings your entire telescope system together in a single interface. From PLAY you control the telescope mount, the motorized focuser, the ARCO rotator, and your camera, all from one application. The built-in planetarium shows the sky in real time and lets you select targets from multiple catalogs or use the Suggested Targets feature to find the best objects for your current date, time, and location. Auto Alignment uses plate solving to precisely align your telescope to the sky without manual star identification. AutoStacking automatically aligns and stacks each captured frame in real time, so you can watch your target emerge from the noise as the session progresses. PLAY is designed to be the central hub of your astrophotography workflow and works alongside specialized tools: PHD2 for autoguiding during long-exposure sessions, and SharpCap for high-frame-rate planetary video capture. PLAY runs on any Windows 10/11 computer.

Your camera, your choice

No camera is included in any CPC Deluxe HD 8" powered by PrimaLuceLab configuration. This is a deliberate choice. The system is designed to work with the camera that best fits your imaging goals, your sensor preferences, and your budget. Any camera compatible with PLAY can be used with the CPC Deluxe HD telescope powered by PrimaLuceLab. PLAY also supports Canon and Nikon DSLR and mirrorless cameras directly, without requiring an ASCOM driver (list of tested DSLR/mirrorless cameras is available here). For planetary and lunar imaging, non-cooled astronomy cameras are the natural choice thanks to their compact size and high frame rates. For deep-sky imaging, cooled cameras can be used, but keep in mind that the alt-azimuth configuration of CPC Deluxe HD limits individual exposures to a few minutes even with autoguiding, unlike equatorial mount systems that support much longer single exposures. This makes compact non-cooled cameras with medium-sized sensors (such as 11x11mm) a practical and effective choice also for deep-sky work. Cameras with USB ports on the side of the body rather than at the rear further minimize the overall length of the optical train, maximizing the available clearance when pointing near the zenith. Smaller sensors can be set closer to the focal reducer (at a shorter backfocus distance than the optimal one) without creating field curvature, further reducing clearance issues at high elevations.

EAGLE Expansion Kit: the next level

The optional EAGLE Expansion Kit transforms the CPC Deluxe HD 8" powered by PrimaLuceLab into a fully integrated, remotely operated astrophotography station. The EAGLE6 S is a Windows 11 computer that mounts directly on the telescope, replacing your laptop, separate power supplies, and USB hubs with a single unit. All devices connect to EAGLE for centralized power and USB management, and you control everything wirelessly from your smartphone, tablet, or computer through a Remote Desktop connection. The kit adds the CompactGuide 60mm guide telescope for autoguiding. Because the alt-azimuth fork mount configuration does not allow an off-axis guider (the camera would collide with the fork arms during ARCO field de-rotation), a parallel guide scope is the correct solution. Combined with a guide camera (not included, sold separately) and PHD2 software, this system continuously monitors a reference star and sends corrections to the mount, enabling deep-sky exposures of up to 3 to 4 minutes per frame. This is shorter than what equatorial mount systems achieve, but by stacking 20 to 50 sub-frames the results are impressive. This is also why a compact non-cooled camera with a medium sensor (around 11x11mm) is a practical choice for deep-sky imaging with this telescope: it provides enough field of view to frame interesting targets while keeping the optical train short and the zenith clearance safe. EAGLE also includes environmental sensors for sky quality monitoring, an inclinometer for measuring maximum safe elevation angles, and slides along the optical tube to serve as a counterweight for precise balance adjustment.

Engineered mounting and cable management

The EAGLE Expansion Kit includes two 350mm Losmandy-style PLUS dovetail plates with precision curved mounting blocks, specifically shaped to match the cylindrical profile of the CPC Deluxe HD 8" optical tube. One plate is installed on top of the tube and one on the bottom, providing stable and secure attachment points for the CompactGuide 60mm guide telescope on one side and the EAGLE computer on the other. EAGLE is also able to slide along the bottom dovetail bar to fine-tune the weight balance based on the camera and dew shield you plan to install. The kit also includes a complete set of optimized-length USB and power cables designed specifically for the CPC Deluxe HD 8", together with cable sleeves and cable ties for clean, organized cable routing to prevent them from hanging freely or interfering with the telescope's movement during tracking and slewing. This attention to cable management is not cosmetic: cables that catch on the mount or pull on connectors during operation can disconnect devices, damage ports, or introduce tracking errors.

An open system that grows with you

The CPC Deluxe HD 8" powered by PrimaLuceLab is built on open, standard interfaces. All devices communicate through the ASCOM platform, the industry standard for astronomy software and hardware interoperability. This means that as your experience grows, you can add new cameras, new accessories, and new software tools without ever having to replace the core system. You choose the camera that best fits your imaging goals today, and replace it with a better one tomorrow. You start with visual observing, move to high-resolution planetary and lunar imaging with a fast camera and ARCO to keep your target perfectly oriented in the frame, then progress to deep-sky imaging with ARCO field de-rotation and autoguiding: all with the same telescope, the same mount, the same core system. You can even control everything remotely with an external Windows computer or with the optional EAGLE Expansion Kit, turning the telescope into a fully automated astrophotography station operated from your sofa. You choose the camera. You choose the accessories. You decide how far to take it. Please note that PLAY is always required in any configuration, even when using third-party software for image acquisition, because the ARCO field de-rotation function is managed exclusively by PLAY. The CPC Deluxe HD 8" powered by PrimaLuceLab is designed to be your first serious telescope and the one you keep using for years.
