Newtonian telescopes are often recommended to beginners in amateur astronomy since the have both large diameter (and therefore light-gathering capacity) and low cost. The SkyWatcher 254/1200 f4,7 Newton telescope is the model that offers the biggest primary mirror diameter (254mm) still at a very low price: everything with high optical and mechanical quality in this price range. It provides high optical quality that will allow you to see and photograph many objects in the Universe, combined with mechanical quality that includes a great 50,8mm diameter Crayford focuser with 1:10 fine focus knob and SESTO SENSO 2 robotic focusing motor. Perfect for visual use with at least an HEQ5 type mount, for photographic use we advice an EQ6 type mount. 3 years of warranty on the optical tube!
This special version of the SkyWatcher Newton 254/1200 f4,7 adds SESTO SENSO 2 - The highly accurate, advanced, vibration free, robotic focusing motor for your telescope! Connect it to the USB port of your EAGLE or Windows® computer to electronically control focus while still allowing you to manually move your focuser by hand if needed. If you don’t want to focus using a computer, you can connect wirelessly from any smartphone or tablet using the integrated Virtual HandPad via the built-in Wifi network in the SESTO SENSO 2! Thanks to the Self Centering Clamp technology (SCC), SESTO SENSO 2 can be installed on most focusers without the need of external brackets. The supplied FOCUS Manager software and ASCOM driver allow easy configuration of the many advanced features of SESTO SENSO 2. Thanks to the precisely controlled motor with integrated electronics, SESTO SENSO 2 achieves incredible precision of just 0.7 microns. And you can also expand SESTO SENSO 2 features by adding the ARCO robotic camera rotator!
SkyWatcher Newton 254/1200 f4,7 with SESTO SENSO and the following optional accessories: Losmandy style 350mm PLUS dovetail bar (below and above the tube) and EAGLE with guide scope in parallel (above the telescope).
Thanks to the use of SESTO SENSO 2, you can use the SkyWatcher Newton 254/1200 f4,7 both for visual use (with the SESTO SENSO 2 Virtual Hand Pad you can move the focuser even without a computer and without touching the focuser, this way avoiding any flexure) and for astrophotography (by connecting SESTO SENSO 2 to the EAGLE or an external Windows computer you can control cameras and accessories for the image capture). By adding the optional coma corrector, inserted in the focuser in front of the camera, you can correct coma (the effect that leads to the stretching of the stars towards the edge of the field) without reducing the telescope focal length. This way you can use the SkyWatcher Newton 250/1250 f5 in astrophotography even with cameras equipped with large sensors, up to FullFrame.
