Compared to QHY8L, the QHY10 CCD camera provides not only a higher resolution (10 mega pixels) but, above all  a higher quality sensor with a very high full well capacity  (45,000 e, about twice of QHY8L). Thanks to this feature, it allows the sensor to have a greater dynamic range so you can set longer shutter speeds without saturating the signal.


The exceptional quality of the sensor is accompanied by a powerful cooling and stabilization system with double Peltier cell that allows the sensor to cool down up to -40°C with respect to ambient temperature. All af this to allow you to record amazing long exposure astropictures, always with the ease of use typical of color cameras.

The QHY10 is the perfect camera for those searching for a color CCD with large (comparable to the APS-C or DX formats DSLRs) and high quality sensor for highest levels astrophotography. The color camera makes astrophotography easier since it doesn't require the use of many filters (in case of light pollution we only recommend a LPS filter). Compared to cheaper QHY8L, the QHY10 CCD camera provides a sensor with an almost double full-well capacity that allows the sensor an higher dynamic range: so you can shot longer exposition without saturating the signal. This leads to better color fidelity and more pointful stars. All of it is associated to a precise and powerful cooling and stabilization system with double Peltier cell (cooling down to -40°C with respect to the external ambient temperature), an advanced electronic 16 bits A/D converter and a compact and lightweight body.

By plotting the sensor's size and the cost of CCD cameras  you can notice how the QHY10 is more expensive (with the same sensor's dimension) than the QHY8L but it offers a better quality signal. Thet's why this is absolutely the camera that offers the best price/performance ratio.


 


Big dimensions sensor, 10 mega pixels resolution

The ICX494AQA of sensor QHY10 has high resolution, 10 mega pixels (3900 x 2616 with 6.05 x 6.05 microns pixels). The sensor has large dimensions (comparable to the one of a DSLR camera) and allows you to frame a larger field than the one of other brands CCD cameras with comparable price.
 
This way you can image objects with large apparent sky dimension (such as the Andromeda Galaxy, the Orion Nebula and the Pleiades) without the need for very short optical focal length. For example the QHY10 used together with AIRY APO80 refractor frames a big field of 2.72° x 1.81°!






Double Peltier cell cooling system

When we're imaging deep sky objects (galaxies, nebulae or star clusters) we need to use very long exposition times (even longer than 10 minutes). In these cases the management of the electronic noise is critical. The cooling system with the double Peltier cell allows the sensor to cool down up to -40°C compared to the ambient temperature drastically decreasing the electronic noise.

This, combined with low electronic noise Sony sensors and the special thermal thermal of QHY10, allows you to record clear images even with very long exposure times. The cooling system of QHY10 also allows you to precisely set a sensor's working temperature: in this way you will be sure that the camera will record all the images at the same temperature, regardless of the external temperature variation. This is critical to correctly calibrate the images during processing.





It includes control software

The QHY10 comes with EZCAP control software for Windows. The software , developed specifically for the cooled QHYCCD cameras, allows you to control all the camera's acquisition parameters, precisely focus the image and record images (including sequences) according to the shutter speed you want to use. This is a light and simple to use software, perfect for both astrophotography beginners and experienced amateur astronomers. The camera also have ASCOM drivers that allow you to control it with softwares like MaximDL or AstroArt.
