How to update EAGLE CORE with iOS 11: starting from version 11 (released in September 2017), the iOS operative system by Apple has added the File application that now allows us to upgrade the EAGLE CORE firmware even from iPhone or iPad. We periodically update the EAGLE CORE by adding new features and new cameras supported and, if you have verified that your EAGLE CORE does not have the latest firmware available on our website (click here to download), you can follow this procedure to update it. Open your File application on your iPhone or iPad, then select iCloud Drive.
Bring your finger on the screen, move it down to make the Option icons appear, then click on the top left to create a new folder.
Name the folder EAGLE CORE and press the End button at the top right. Now open your Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad and go to https://www.primalucelab.com/astronomy/downloads and click on the "Click here to download the EAGLE CORE firmware" button.
The following screen will appear, select the option "Open in File". It will open the File application, select EAGLE CORE folder and click the "Add" button on the top right.
The file saved in your EAGLE CORE folder on your iPhone or iPad is in Zip format and then it has to be unzipped with a special software (iOS 11 can not natively unzip Zip files). Go to the App Store and search for Unzip, then download and install the free "Unzip Tool - Zip Unrar, File Manager" application with the icon as shown below.
Now go back to the File application, select the Zip file previously downloaded in the EAGLE CORE folder and press the button at the top right. In the window that opens, scroll with the finger the third row (the one with Message, E-mail, etc.) icons until you find Unzip and click on the "Copy to Unzip" button.
After a short advertisement (click X in the upper right to close) select the downloaded zip file (in our example 1015_update_20170724.zip) and then click the "Unzip File" button below.
Then select the uncompressed folder (in our example 1015_update_20170724), in the window that opens, select the icon i to the right of 1015_update_20170724.enc file and click on "Open in ...".
Click the "Save to File" option, open the File application again, select EAGLE CORE folder and click the "Add" button.
So you have saved your EAGLE CORE firmware on your iPhone or iPad, ready to be installed. So let's proceed with the firmware installation on EAGLE CORE. After switching on EAGLE CORE (just connect it to a power source), go to "Settings" and select Wi-Fi, then click on the WiFi connection created by your EAGLE CORE, in our example "eaglecore0051". Enter the password if prompted. Then open the EagleApp control app.
Click the button on the top left to make the EAGLE CORE options appear, then select Update. In the window that opens, select the "Choose File" button and then "Browse" below.
In the window that opens, select EAGLE CORE folder, and then the file that we previously unzipped (in our example update_20170724). Press the OK button to confirm the update (remember not to disconnect from power the EAGLE CORE during the upgrade process or you may corrupt it).
A window will appear with the message "Apply update" NOTE: System will be rebooted! ". Click OK to confirm. The update will be performed and, during the same update that takes about 1 minute, you will lose the WiFi connection to EAGLE CORE. You will see an error window that says "Safari can not open the page".
After about 1 minute, in your iPhone or iPad go to Settings, then Wi-Fi and verify that your EAGLE CORE WiFi is again available. Select and activate the EagleApp application again. To check the version of the firmware, click the button on the top left to make the EAGLE CORE options appear and at the top of the page you will see the version of the new uploaded firmware.
