After presenting in 2014 the first complete amateur radio telescope, commercially available, capable of recording radio-maps of the Universe, now PrimaLuceLab is proud to present the new professional radio telescope named SPIDER 500P with 5 meters parabolic antenna: a really new system designed for those amateur border line with professionals, and those Institutions that need or want to take advantage of a much higher precision and a much wider capacity.
The SPIDER 500P professional radio telescope is a complete and ready to use system, equipped with all the parts needed to record radio waves coming from space at 1.42 GHz frequency of and with features of both radiometer (for continuous recordings) and spectrometer.
SPIDER 500P’s antenna is a “prime focus” model, shipped in 8 segments (easy mount) with an optimized LNA receiver and a feed horn. The antenna, made up with an aluminum frame covered with a light mesh, has a shape precision suitable to get the most appropriate radio waves reflection.
The antenna is designed to work at 1,42 GHz in order to avoid cloud interference and register all signals arriving from space.
SPIDER 500P radio telescope has a very precise alt-azimutal mount with high torque motors and electronic controls for automatic pointing and tracking of radio sources in the Universe. The mount is designed for a very high payload capacity (up to 150 Kgs), a very high goto and tracking precision computer controlled from remote computer.
The mount is waterproof so that SPIDER 500P can fully operate also in bad weather conditions. To assure the System safety, the mount includes also a special electronic wind sensor that automatically “parks” the radio telescope (forcing it to point the vertical position) when the wind speed exceeds a preset value.
SPIDER 500P is equipped with an exclusive custom-made professional radio receiver, very precise and steady with both radio spectrometer and radiometer functions, designed to work at 1420 MHz frequency (21cm wavelength) for radio astronomy studies.
Because of its high frequency stability, the whole system is particularly suitable for spectrometric measurements of 21cm neutral hydrogen line (maps of neutral hydrogen distribution in the galaxy), for SETI applications and as a monitoring instrument of the radio spectrum (map of radio interference) of the 1420 MHz protected frequency.
